Here at Topflite Loft Conversions we create the perfect loft conversion for your property. Depending on your property type, the kind of roof you have and the specific requirements you have, we have plenty of loft conversion ideas for you.
One thing we are experts at is knowing which kind of loft conversion will suit your home and your needs. Below we have highlighted the four main kinds. So, if you want a room with a view you can opt for a Velux loft conversion or a dormer loft conversion.
Velux loft conversion
These are also known as a roof-light conversion. This is because a Velux window is essentially a window in your roof. The walls within your loft conversion will be sloping, in line with the roof. With the recent changes in planning permission laws, no planning permission is required for this kind of loft conversion. They are also extremely cost effective.
Dormer loft conversion
A dormer will extend the current print of the roof. More floorspace and headroom will be added and it will sit above from the rest of the roof. There are various different styles of dormer loft conversions. The walls will be vertical and the ceilings will be horizontal, unlike that of a Velux loft conversion.
There are other types of loft conversions too;
Mansard loft conversion
This is named after the 17th century architect who first used this style. This loft conversion will allow the use of the maximum amount of space in your loft. The slope will be as vertical as possible and the top slope is almost horizontal. It is a simple way to add more storey’s to your property.
Hip to gable loft conversion
This is the best type of loft conversion for those with hip roofs. This is where the roof slopes at an angle from walls to apex. Often there is not enough space in the roof to create a full loft conversion so the gable wall is built upon to level with the hip roof.
