Types of Loft Conversions

Which type of loft conversion is right for you depends on your property and requirements. Detailed below are the different types of loft conversion offered by Topflite. Please contact us to discuss your requirements.

Velux Loft Conversion

Also known as rooflight conversions. The name Velux comes as they are the leading manufacturer of roof windows and so the name has become associated with this type of loft conversion. Not requiring planning permission make this type a popular choice as well as being very cost effective.

A dormer loft conversion is carried out by extended the existing roof to provide more floorspace and headroom within the loft. It will protude from the existing roof, usually at the rear of the property and can be designed in a number of different styles to suit your requirements. Inside the conversion there will be a horizontal ceiling and vertical walls as opposed to the usual sloped sides of a conversion. Perfect where there is limited space and headroom to make the conversion provide the space you require.

A Mansard conversion, named after the 17th century French arhitect who often used this style, allows the maximum use of space available within your loft. The lower slope is almost vertical whilst the top slope is almost horizontal, as can be seen in the illustration opposite.

Hip to Gable

A hip to gable loft conversion provides the best conversion solution to houses with hip roofs, as usually there is not enough internal space for a conversion. The gable wall will be built upon until level with the hip line whereby additional roofing is added.
