Tis the season for…a loft conversion?

Whilst many businesses are slowing down over the holiday season it would appear that we are on over-drive.  We love this time of year, getting loft conversions finished for the guests you have staying, seeing the finished product and getting a chance to truly show off your new space.

If you have been following us on Twitter you will know that we have been sharing photos of our new projects.  From tiling and stud wall insulation to fitting staircases and plastering walls.  These have been just a few of our jobs in the past couple of weeks.

Christmas is a great time for a loft conversion.  With extra guests in your home that extra space is often much needed.  And yes, we know it is not the only reason to have a loft conversion, but it is a chance for you to show off your new guest bedroom or master suite.

Christmas is a time to relax, unwind and slow down.  So, if you are yet to have a chat with your family or loved ones about a potential loft conversion, then now is as good a time as any.

Discuss the use for the extra space.  A study? A games room? An extra bedroom with en-suite?  The list goes on.  If you have some time off then perhaps you can gain some inspiration, chat to neighbours who have had something similar, and then give us a call!

We are on hand to chat you through all aspects of your loft conversion.  In fact, before you give us a call, why not head to Twitter (@Topflite_Lofts) and see what we have been up to.  Check out our gallery on our website and have a read through our blogs.

Save money for your loft conversion

Are you planning on a loft conversion? Have you recently had a loft conversion but need to save some money for the decor? This time of year can certainly be costly.  Saving money can be extremely hard.  But there are a wide range of money saving ideas that can help.

1. De-clutter

Clearing out your loft or garage can unearth some great treasures.  You can make some extra cash by simply selling your unwanted items on eBay.  It will also leave you with the extra space for your loft conversion!

2. Energy saving

You can save money on your energy bills by replacing all your lightbulbs with energy saving bulbs.

3. Heating

This time of year can most certainly be cold.  However, by turning your thermostat down by just a few degrees can really make a difference on your heating bill.  Also, make sure that you have the right level of insulation in your home.  By adding a loft conversion you will be able to insulate your loft much better.

4. Rent it out

If you are planning on a loft conversion you could consider renting out a room in your house to a lodger.  You could also rent it out as desk space for a freelancer.  That way you could make some extra cash each month.

5. Plan ahead

Writing lists can help to reduce your weekly costs.  When food shopping, writing a list will mean you only buy what you actually need.  That way you won’t spend frivilously on the items you don’t need.

Government relaxes planning laws

The Government has decided to relax the planning laws in the UK.  This means that those wanting to have an extension or a loft conversion will be able to get started sooner than they anticipated.  This is great news if you are looking to add a loft conversion to your home.

The aim is to boost the UK economy which has been in a difficult position for sometime.  It will also make the local council backlog of planning applications much easier to deal with as they won’t have to spend time on the smaller projects and can concentrate on those that require much more time.

David Cameron has spoken out saying “This government means business in delivering plans to help people build new homes and kick-start the economy.  We’re determined to cut through the bureaucracy that holds us back.  That starts with getting the planners off our backs, getting behind the businesses that have the ambition to expand and meeting the aspirations of families that want to buy or improve a home.”

Planning permission will only now be needed if the extension is going beyond 8 metres for detached homes and 6 metres for other types of property.

If you are currently looking to extend your home, whether for monetary purposes or to provide your family with more space, then why not consider a loft conversion?  A loft conversion is a great way to add space and to improve your property.  It is also a great selling feature should you be looking to move.

Here at Topflite Loft Conversions we have years of experience in planning and building loft conversions, so why not contact us today for a free quote?

Terraced home = limited space

Terraced home = limited space

If you live in a terraced home then you will know that space can often be limited.  And with the property market not being what it should be, you can often feel stuck.  But this doesn’t need to be the case.

If you have a terraced house then look up.  Your loft is unused valuable space.  This space can easily be maximised.  Chances are you have been using it to store boxes of items you are yet to unpack.  Things that you haven’t used in years and belongings that are simply taking up space.  Space that you could be using.

A loft conversion is the perfect way to expand your terraced home.  It can often be the last place we think of when it comes to expanding.  It is dusty, appears cramped and full of useless items.  But imagine if it could be transformed.

Here at Topflite Loft Conversions we have plenty of great loft conversion ideas for you.

–  A master bedroom and en-suite

–  A home office

–  Spare bedroom

–  Games room

–  Kids play room

There is so much choice.  You just need to make the decision to go for it.  We know you won’t be disappointed.

It is also a great selling point.  You could be adding some significant value to your home as well as creating more space for your family.  A loft conversion is the ideal way to enhance your home and to give you an extra selling point when you come to move.

In the current climate it could be what separates you from the rest. Contact us today at Topflite Loft Conversions to find out how we can make the most of your loft.

Planning a loft conversion? Let your neighbours know

Planning a loft conversion? Let your neighbours know

When you are planning a loft conversion there are many things to consider.  You may already have plenty of loft conversion ideas, or you may not be sure what you will use it for.  Whether you need more room in your home or simply want to extend for investment purposes, a loft conversion is ideal.

They are the perfect way to create that extra space you so desperately need, without having to move home.  That dusty old loft space that has become a storage space for all your old and unwanted items could soon become a study, kids play room or even a master bedroom with en-suite.

But whatever you decide to go ahead with you may want to let your neighbours know first.  Unlike years ago when all extensions required planning permission, most loft conversions no longer do.

It is still worth checking with your loft conversion company if you do need to put in a request for planning permission.  But making sure that you have informed your neighbours is essential.

It can be tempting, once you have made the decision to have a loft conversion, to simply get stuck in.  But telling your neighbours about your plans will make life easier in the long run.

The best way to go about this is:

  • Let them know what you are having done
  • Show them the plans and drawings
  • Inform them of when building will start and roughly when it is due to finish
  • Reassure them that you aim to cause as little disruption as possible
  • When finished, let them see what you have had done!

This way you will keep everyone happy and believe us when we say it will make your life a lot easier.

Don’t forget to let them know who is doing your loft conversion too! You never know, they may follow suit.
