The Government has decided to relax the planning laws in the UK.  This means that those wanting to have an extension or a loft conversion will be able to get started sooner than they anticipated.  This is great news if you are looking to add a loft conversion to your home.

The aim is to boost the UK economy which has been in a difficult position for sometime.  It will also make the local council backlog of planning applications much easier to deal with as they won’t have to spend time on the smaller projects and can concentrate on those that require much more time.

David Cameron has spoken out saying “This government means business in delivering plans to help people build new homes and kick-start the economy.  We’re determined to cut through the bureaucracy that holds us back.  That starts with getting the planners off our backs, getting behind the businesses that have the ambition to expand and meeting the aspirations of families that want to buy or improve a home.”

Planning permission will only now be needed if the extension is going beyond 8 metres for detached homes and 6 metres for other types of property.

If you are currently looking to extend your home, whether for monetary purposes or to provide your family with more space, then why not consider a loft conversion?  A loft conversion is a great way to add space and to improve your property.  It is also a great selling feature should you be looking to move.
